Counting

Cedar and I had a date. It was sweet he was my date to see the Boulder Contemporary ballet show in Estes park. Actually we double dated with our another mom and her son. It started with a drink at the bar..they choose orange juice and lollipops and we choose wine! I was excited for him to see "big" people, both male and female dance. They were excited to eat lollipops, and sit by each other high up in an auditorium!! The show began and then the counting!! I could hear these little voices.."one person, three people, lots of people" going on and on as the dancers mysteriously came and went from the stage. All the while they counted. I noticed that the counting happened to the slower more melodic songs. When the dancer we dancing to a deeper, faster beat it stopped. The memory of counting as a kid was there. I remember every week attending Catholic Church with my family. To count you could say. As the sermon went on, as the songs were sung, as we knelled and stood, I would count. Counted the lights, pillars, chairs, pews. Looking back it was my meditation. I may not have been interested in church but it gave me a chance to count, and meditate without knowing it. There really is something so soothing about counting and it begins as such a young age..to count is to meditate.

Turning a new leaf

time and time again life helps encourages us to change. and once again we find ourselves rotating from a "what is next" to a YES we have found it!! Here it is Enki, the new curriculum we have begun to invest in. It is official from whatever angle i say it We will be homeschooling Cedar for his K year! I couldn't be more excited to feel complete, feel relieved that we have found something that really fits our life. An approach that is holistic, natural, multi-cultural, sensory-intigrated..a true way to come togetehr for the mind, body and soul.

We are excited to share this curriculm and have also joined another family in this journey. The boys enjoy there time together and we as parents find it enjoyable and quite resourceful to work together during these "schooling" days!!

After years of talking about GOATS we finally headed to Greeley to meet a women named Roxie who had some pygmy goats for the taking! you know how sometimes the person over the phone triggers something and you just know that you have to meet them and hear there "story." Well that was Roxie. I replied to her add for goats, her energy was high, she called m Sissy, and she was in love with her goats! So I meet up with Jody on a cold Tuesday afternoon, in the snow we cruised an hour to the farm lands of Greeley, Colorado. And there in front of an old feed store was Roxie and her husband Dwayne! She knew everything there was to know about goats..or atleast she thought she did! We visited her hobby farm full of the chickens, horses, ducks, doves, goats..and there they were the cutest little goats!! It took a bit to convince her to sell us 2 as she was in love with her "bay" girl! With my persuasiveness we ended up with 2 goats! A little boy and girl..there names are Hazel and Finnegan. The kiddos were so excited...and for the next week we spent so much time in the coop where we housed them until we could get there fence built! This past weekend we built the fence with some help from our friends and the goats seem to be adjusting well. I am so in love..I didn't know goats we so sweet, so gentle so loving..so meet the goats Hazel and Finnegan..along with 20 more chicks we added to the coop!! EGGS FOR SALE THIS SUMMER!!!

Learning along the way

It always feels good to make personal choices..when I want to go to bed, when I want to learn a new hobby, etc..and it seems recently Cedar is aging. Aging to that special place where he can truly honor himself, know where he is comfortable and challenge himself when he feels confident. When Cedar turned 4 I found myself encouraging him to ride his bike, encouraging him to not be scared of change, and as I watched him continue to not be ready for newness...for example swimming lessons. I always felt guilty, guilty that I had done something wrong. That somehow I was not nurturing a confident, high self esteem little guy. But now I get it. I get that timing is everything. Development isn't something to be rushed, made to happen. A certain age doesn't mean new thing will come..When the time is right, when the activity is exciting, when the child is ready to bloom it seems almost effortless! And now Cedar makes hings looks effortless and full of joy. His biking, writing letters, swimming in semi-private lessons. He starts these activities glowing and glows throughout the days into the weeks. So proud, so ecstatic. And i can stand back and be sure time, love and patience make all new buds grow strong.
